The Ambulatory Surgery Center of Greater New York first opened its doors in 1987 as one of the first ASCs to be licensed in the State of New York. Our Founder and Managing Director, Dr. Jerome H. Levy’s goal was to erect a facility that would provide patients with the most specialized and comprehensive eye care available; a center that would combine the ultimate in medical technology with a patient-centered environment that would provide excellence in healthcare at the lowest possible cost.
The idea was to build a two-level facility that would house both a medical practice and a freestanding ambulatory surgery center. In 1983, with a team of expert architects, consultants and designers, construction of the medical facility began. Building a surgery center in New York City in 1983 was not an easy project. The concept of ambulatory surgery was in its infancy and the pool of experienced people from which to draw was minuscule.
The Ambulatory Surgery Center has evolved into a tremendous success. In just two operating suites and one laser room, over 7,000 cases are performed each year. We have become a role model for other surgery centers, and are continually being called upon to share the secrets of our success.
Ambulatory surgery is a very competitive market, and it hasn’t always been easy to maintain a competitive edge, especially in light of steadily decreasing reimbursement, but thanks to our loyal surgeons, patients and staff, we have always managed to remain on top.
Our Administrator, Erin Duffy, R.N., has been employed by the surgery center since its inception and believes that the facility’s staff is our most valuable asset. The Surgery Center selects its staff of professionals for their warmth and compassion, in addition to their excellent technical skills and, because of this, the Ambulatory Surgery Center has been associated with the best in the industry for over 35 years!
